The CIVIS3i Program hosted its second and third training sessions on transferable skills for postdoctoral researchers from October 28–31, 2024, in Marseille, France. Held at the prestigious Institute for Advanced Study IMéRA and the Canebière Campus of Aix-Marseille University (AMU), this year’s Autumn School focused on the essential theme of Career Development.
Empowering Postdocs for Leadership
This Autumn School offered postdoctoral researchers a unique opportunity to acquire and refine the skills necessary to lead a team, both within and beyond the academic sphere. The training was conducted by experts affiliated with CIVIS3i partner universities, including AMU and Université libre de Bruxelles (ULB), alongside external coaches specializing in leadership and professional development.
Participants benefited from hands-on workshops and interactive sessions on a variety of critical topics:
- Task Organization and Lab Leadership
- Team Motivation and Delegation
- Academic Communication and Public Speaking
- Networking and Organizing Scientific Events
- Writing Competitive Grant Applications
- Open Science and Open Data Practices
These sessions equipped participants with practical tools and strategies to enhance their academic careers while also preparing them for opportunities beyond the lab.
The training fostered a dynamic and collaborative atmosphere through a mix of expert-led sessions, networking opportunities, and informal gatherings. Coffee breaks, group dinners, and the picturesque setting of Marseille provided the perfect backdrop for participants to exchange ideas and form lasting connections.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to the enthusiastic participants, dedicated organizing staff, and inspiring guest speakers who contributed to the success of this event. Your engagement made this Autumn School an enriching and memorable experience.
Stay tuned for upcoming training sessions as we continue to support the professional growth of postdoctoral researchers through the CIVIS3i Program!
