A successfull first collective training for CIVIS3i postdocs

First cohort of postdoctoral fellows jumping against the beautiful seaside sunset in Marseille

We have just finished a very successful collective training on transferable skills for Postdocs! The training, first of a series of four trainings in the CIVIS3i Programme, took place on 22-25 May 2023, at Aix Marseille University (AMU), in Marseille, France, with the theme Researchers' tools.

Collective trainings present a unique opportunity for postdoctoral researchers to receive instruction and direction from prominent academics, collaborate and network with fellow researchers from an international range of countries, and to discuss their own work as well as wider aspects of being a scientist.

The training was held by specialists encouraged by the CIVIS3i partner universities. Trainers and guest speakers were invited from AMU, Université libre de Bruxelles (ULB) and National Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA) – providing a wide-range guidance in running scientific projects, managing R&D work at scientific institutions/companies, preparation of international grants, gender issues, ethics and technology transfer in academia, open science practices, as well as developing academic leadership. Workshops were held on academic communication and presentations, on scientific writing and on student supervision.

Aix Marseille University's Deputy Vice Rector for Research and Technology Stefan Enoch, the CIVIS3i Programme Coordinator, opened the meeting on 22 May at the Marseille downtown campus, located near the picturesque old harbour or Vieux Port.

  •     14 talented postdocs attended from across Europe
  •     11 distinguished guest speakers shared their knowledge
  •     4 days full with lectures, workshops, and discussions
  •     Postdocs met with the collective trainings organizing committee to discuss how best the future collective trainings can support scientists at the postdoctoral career stage

Coffee breaks, networking, group dinner and a sunset tour to the seaside around Marseille made the training a memorable event.

We are grateful to all enthusiastic participants, organizing staff and guest speakers who made the training a successful event. Please visit the CIVIS3i website for future announcements.
