Dr. Delle Foglie, postdoctoral fellow at ULB, with Prof. Anna Candida Felici (LANDA Laboratory, Sapienza University of Rome), will be presenting her research at InART2024, the 6th International Conference on Innovation in Art Research and Technology (InART2024) in Oslo, from June 4-7, 2024. The poster, titled "A multi-analytical study on two International Gothic paintings", presents a multi-analytical study of two paintings: Michelino da Besozzo, The Mystic Marriage of Saint Catherine (Siena, Pinacoteca Nazionale; figured here) and Michelino da Besozzo (attr.), The Madonna of the Rose Garden (Verona, Museo civico di Castelvecchio). The paintings were analyzed on-site by means of energy dispersive X-ray fluorescence spectroscopy (ED-XRF) and fiber optics reflectance spectroscopy (FORS).
Dr. Delle Foglie's project explores the International Gothic period, spanning the late 14th to mid-15th century, characterized by a shared artistic language of grace and elegance across Europe. Focusing on Italy, her work delves into the oeuvre of Michelino da Besozzo, a versatile and celebrated artist known for his refined calligraphic linearism under the patronage of the Visconti family. This interdisciplinary study reconstructs Michelino's complete body of work, emphasizing his influence and the cultural mobility of Late Gothic art across Europe.
